Tanja Spanic

Tanja Španić, DVM, PhD, has a professional background in veterinary medicine and a PhD in molecular and behavioural neuroscience. She is a professional patient advocate and current president of Europa Donna Slovenia and past president of Europa Donna – The European Breast Cancer Coalition. Dr Španić was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 26. A year after her diagnosis, she joined Europa Donna Slovenia. Since then, she has been an active breast cancer advocate, both nationally and internationally. Currently she has active roles as a faculty member for Breast Cancer in Young Women

(BCY) and the European Breast Cancer Conference (EBCC); as a steering committee member of the OlympiA and POSITIVE clinical trials; as chair of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Patient Advocates Working Group and member of the ESMO policy-making group; as a member of the Early Breast Cancer Trialists’ Collaborative Group (EBCTCG) in Oxford, UK; and for The Lancet Breast Cancer Commission team. In Slovenia, Dr Španić is a member of the ethics committee at the Institute of Oncology, the steering committee for screening programmes at the Ministry of Health, and the health council at the Ministry of Health. She is the co-author of several scientific papers on breast cancer.
